Hello, dear readers!
Welcome to the first of what I hope will be many more writings and discussions on books, films, television, other media, and the industries that create them. Where should I begin? Let me tell you more about myself. My name is Vrinda Rao. I've been a freelance book editor and proofreader for the past four years, aspiring to enter the publishing or advertising industries. Because of this economy, those dreams were shelved temporarily (no pun intended!), but I remain determined to find that job and offer my skills and background to that deserving employer. I was an English major at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey, and also got my teaching credentials there. I speak Spanish as well as English, but am looking to expand on my lingustic abilities. My favorite types of books are detective novels, spy novels, true ghost stories, true crime, and paleontology. As a child, I had dreams of being a paleontologist! That love of reading about discoveries of fossils has never left me.
The publishing industry, from what I have read over the years, continues to change and never ceases to stay relevant to the times, while still maintaining its traditional model of promoting the printed word. As you'll find in my next few entries, there's much to learn.
Next time, I'll write about some books I have recently finished and started. Whenever friends come over and see all the books lined up on my self, they ask me which ones I like the best. I never know where to begin telling them which ones ...
Till next time,
Vrinda
